Border Biscuits honoured at the Great Taste Awards

UK-based manufacturer Border has been recognised at the Great Taste Awards 2018, with the brand’s dark chocolate gingers and lemon drizzle melts each awarded 1-star for the quality of their flavour.

The honours celebrate the very best of the food and drinks industry, with a total of 12,600 products judged by 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs and restauranteurs. Just 25% of entries were awarded the accolade of 1 star, demonstrating Border’s expertise as a quality and consistent manufacturer.

Feedback from the judges praised the crunch of each biscuit, as well as the ‘punch’ of the Dark Chocolate Ginger, along with the zesty lemon and attractiveness of the Lemon Drizzle Melt.

Following its rebrand in 2016, Border, based in Lanark, Scotland, has gone from strength to strength resulting in the brand becoming the number one special treat with the country, as well as rising the ranks to 16th place in the Scottish Grocer’s list of the biggest food brands.

As the company explained, its ginger biscuits are also the number one best-selling ginger biscuits in the UK, outselling more than twice that of all the own label varieties added together.

Aiming to replicate its success in Scotland across the UK, the business has secured over 1800 new distribution points since the campaign in supermarkets including Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Co-op and Waitrose. At the moment, with a turnover of £16.5m, the company ranks at number 14 in the top 20 sweet biscuits in the UK.

Andy Alston, communications officer at Border, said: “We are honoured to have two of our products recognised in the Great Taste Awards this year.

“This offers fantastic recognition for the whole team at Border, our dark chocolate gingers are a stern in-house favourite as are the lemon drizzle melts. This only adds to our determination to grow as a brand. Looking to the future we have big plans for the brand and we can’t wait to share them.”

Other accolades the business has received include and a 1-star rating from the Great Taste Awards for the Dark Chocolate and Orange Ginger biscuit back in 2017, ‘Business of the Year’ and ‘Brand Success of the Year’ at the Scottish Food & Drink Excellence Awards in Edinburgh earlier this year.
