Wrights opens £6m confectionery factory

UK-based Wrights Food Group has opened its new £6m confectionery factory in Crewe, creating 100 jobs.
The 40,000 sq ft, fully automated confectionary plant employs around is capable of producing 900,000 doughnuts a week and 26 million cookies, as well as various cakes, scones, mince pies and biscuits.
The opening was marked by a visit from Princess Anne, who during a tour of the confectionery manufacturing lines saw cakes being hand-decorated, novelty biscuit production, the latest time-saving spiral freezers, and robotic cutting equipment. She was also shown a selection of confectionery products, and one of the 90th anniversary hampers the company has distributed throughout 2016.
Wrights chairman and CEO Peter Wright said, “The official opening by your Royal Highness of this state-of-the-art, £6m confectionery manufacturing facility marks the latest chapter in the Wrights story.”
Founded by John James Wright in 1926, Wrights Food Group also produces savoury products, including pork pies, sausage rolls and quiches.
