Ingredion develops liquid prebiotic fibre

US-based ingredients company Ingredion has launched a liquid soluble prebiotic fibre which is said to support digestive and immune health, provide a source of fibre, and can be used to reduce sugar in baked goods.
Nutraflora L95-S, an extension of the company’s Nutraflora soluble prebiotic fibre, is easy to use and comes in a high purity, stable liquid format, according to the company. Ingredion adds that it has a quick dispersion rate with low viscosity, making it ready to use and easy to pump, process and handle.
Nutraflora is derived from non-GMO sucrose (cane sugar) using a bio-fermentation process, and contains short-chain fructooligosaccharides (scFOS), which are also found in fruits, vegetables and grains.
The company claims the soluble prebiotic fibre is 30% as sweet as sugar, with fewer calories and a similar sweetness profile, allowing manufacturers to reduce sugar in formulations. It is also said to offer numerous formulation advantages such as flavour enhancement, fat-mimetic properties, improved mouthfeel and is suitable for use in low calorie products.
“By now offering Nutraflora prebiotic fibre in liquid form, we are helping manufacturers to simplify their operations,” said Marco Villone, vice president of marketing for the US and Canada at Ingredion. “By formulating with Nutraflora L95-S soluble prebiotic fibre, food developers have the ability to easily go beyond basic nutrition and bring consumers the fibre and digestive support they want.”
