Südzucker puts down roots

Südzucker UK has announced that it is now open for business to meet the sugar supply needs of the UK and Irish markets, and will formally commence trading from 1 October 2015 in line with the 2015-2016 sugar campaign year.
The newly formed company, established in May 2015, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Südzucker AG, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of sugar and sugar specialities.
Südzucker UK will operate in tandem with James Fleming & Co Ltd, sharing a core team of existing staff from offices based in Livingston, Scotland.
Flemings, a long-established specialist food manufacturer for the baking and confectionery industries, is credited with establishing and growing the Südzucker product range to customers in the UK and Ireland in addition to its successful range of jams, jellies, caramels and mincemeats. Flemings will continue to supply its clients in these specialist food products, as it has done for over 100 years.
Heading up both business units, managing director Ross Ferguson comments:
“I am delighted to be making this announcement today and I look forward to continuing to work with Südzucker AG in Mannheim in developing Südzucker UK, as well as maintaining Flemings’ leadership in the baking and confectionery market. For both businesses this is the next logical commercial step towards building a strong future for both Südzucker UK and Flemings.”
“We are actively communicating with our customers across the UK and Ireland to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. We will work with them to respond to their specific sugar requirements, as well as delivering the exceptional service that our customers have come to expect over the years.”
