Firm claims bulk bag success

Nidar AS, a Norwegian candy supplier, has updated its 1950s plant regularly with modern bulk handling equipment over the years. When gravity feeding of materials is not an option the plant transfers bulk materials using bulk bag dischargers, flexible screw conveyors, rigid augers and pneumatic conveyors.

Currently Nidar is using the Bulk-Out BFH-C-X twin half-frame bulk bag discharger, provided by Flexicon. This bulk bag discharger can hold two types of starch side by side in a tight space, and can hold enough starch to keep the line running for two days or more.

According to Tor Ove Kvingedal, a maintenance engineer at the company, the system also saves labour, as previously employees would carry the starch in 25kg bags upstairs numerous times a day to be dumped into two large vessels. Additionally the system has improved the working environment for employees as it contains the starch dust, which, although not harmful, can be unpleasant.

“The twin half-frame bulk bag discharger is easy to keep clean using compressed air or a damp rag, and maintenance needs are very low,” says Mr. Kvingedal. “I don’t have any issues at all with the twin discharger.”
