Compostable chocolate box tray
25 October 2010 – UK retail chain Marks & Spencer is to introduce a corn starch-based Plantic tray to hold its Swiss chocolate range with an outer-box is made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified cardboard.
It is home compostable and will take around three weeks to break down. Under water it will dissolve in minutes, claims the company. Plantic biopolymer film is starch-based and compostable to EN 13432 standards.
A recently signed deal between Australian company Plantic Technologies and Klöckner Pentaplast Group will see the distribution of Plantic film in Europe and the Americas. It is suitable for chocolate as well as other types of confectionery and other applications such as biscuits.
