After a confirmed presence of E. Coli 0157 in samples from a tub of Nestle chocolate cookie dough, the problem was thought to be an ingredient in the dough that hosts the bacteria.

Nestle voluntarily recalled 30,000 cases of its cookie dough on June 19 as officials of FDA and federal Centers for Disease and prevention suspected more than 12 cases of E. Coli-related illnesses as a result of the dough. Currently 34 victims have been hospitalised and the plant responsible for production of the cookie dough has been closed down for further tests. It is uncertain when it will reopen.
