Mettler-Toledo retains coveted carbon neutral status

Inspection equipment group Mettler-Toledo has confirmed its ongoing commitment to sustainable manufacturing in achieving carbon neutral status for the fifth consecutive year. Additionally, the company is on track to achieve its goal of sending zero waste to landfill by 2025.

In 2023, the business made substantial strides toward its sustainability objectives. Efforts include accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles, ramping up solar power and district heating capacities and re-achieving targets for sourcing 100% renewable electricity. These achievements reinforce the company’s commitment to sustainability and contribute to its 2030 science-based targets for emissions reduction.

The global company, which has continued to exhibit at a range of major events including last year’s Interpack, followed by ProSweets in Cologne, Germany, has also increased efforts related to sustainable product design, supplier engagement and transparency in its supply chain. The company’s direct supplier engagement programme, initiated in 2022, has been further advanced, aligning with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals and commitments. Leveraging risk assessments, the programme targets suppliers where Mettler-Toledo can have the greatest impact, driving progress toward shared sustainability objectives.

In terms of its product offerings, the business delivers advanced holistic technologies that automate critical processes and help to mitigate recall risks. Metal detection and x-ray inspection technologies detect and reject contaminated product, plus support product quality and brand protection.

As the company noted, precision checkweighing technologies help manufacturers identify costly over-fills and/or avoid potentially brand damaging under-fills, thus assisting to improve production line efficiency. Vision inspection solutions further enhance the firm’s offering by detecting label defects, reducing the risk of rework and product recalls.

To facilitate real-time monitoring and digitalise food safety compliance on a global scale, the business also provides the proprietary and innovative data management software, ProdX.
