GEA sets its sights on a major Interpack showcase

For this year’s Interpack, GEA is set to focus on the benefits of its line expertise, technology innovations, and new solutions in automation and digitalisation for efficient and energy-saving production processes, reports Neill Barston.

All solutions create new opportunities to produce more sustainably, and the company is well placed to help assist businesses through the sector’s present major transformation process.

The current challenges in energy management, the ambition to conserve resources and optimise the circular economy, are increasing demand for food, as we as requiring enhanced safety standard focus.

“The challenges of sustainability, efficiency, and digitalisation are increasingly intertwined,” says Rebecca Cullinan, CEO Food & Healthcare Technologies at GEA. “We have made it our mission to enable our customers to achieve long-term success and sustainable value creation with future-proof technologies and solutions – be it with individual plants, specialised production lines for entire processes, or the establishment of completely new production sites (greenfield projects) of customers. Our modern systems make a major contribution to achieving the sustainability goals of the food processing industry.”

For confectionery, the firm will demonstrate technology updates for the proven GEA Aquarius TwistWrapper for lollipops and the GEA SmartPacker TwinTube for the production of larger pillow bags with a width of 160 mm.

The GEA Aquarius TwistWrapper is a cost-effective configuration that can use up to 30 per cent less film than a single bunch wrapper to reduce the amount of waste produced. With the new Simple Quick-Change Kit for the GEA Aquarius TwistWrapper customers can optimise the conversion time of a format change to another weight as well as to another diameter lollipop.

The GEA SmartPacker TwinTube vertical packing machine can now handle pillow bags up to 160mm bag width. Format changes for the entire format range are simple, quick and require no tools, capable of running either mono material or paper-based bags.
