Nestle investing in Malaysia
14 July 2010 – According to local media reports, Nestlé is set to invest RM20 million (€4.8m) to increase production at its Kit Kat plant in Chembong, Malaysia during 2010 and 2011.
Nestlé Products business executive manager for the confectionery division, Andrew Cooper, says this will increase the plant’s capacity by 30%. “We’re planning to have Kit Kat’s 75th anniversary celebration soon, probably our holding company will announce something in conjunction with the event,’’ Copper told Malaysian publication StarBiz.
Cooper added that 75% of Kit Kat wafers produced at the Chembong plant were exported to Asean countries, 10% to the Middle East and the balance to markets such as China, India and South Korea. He said countries in the Middle East also offered good growth potential as all Nestle products made in Malaysia were certified as halal.
