Sweetdreams delivers launch of debut ethically sourced chocolate bar series

British-based Sweetdreams Ltd has formally launched its debut Choc Nibbles chocolate bar, after securing a sourcing agreement with ethically-focused South-American business Luker Chocolate, reports Neill Barston.

As Confectionery Production revealed from our recent site visit with the company, its latest offering is anticipated to offer a significant additional platform for its portfolio of products, and follows a significant period of investment for the firm.

“The recent investment into an in-house chocolate bar depositing line brings new opportunities, new sales channels and new offerings for the Choc Nibbles brand and business. We can now give a commercial offering to the wholesaler and the retailer that allows two spaces: bags and bars” said Matthew Stephenson, Managing Director of Sweetdreams.

“Choc Nibbles are completely unique in their own right. Incorporating them into a chocolate bar brings an entirely different consumer experience to an already established and loved product that is indulgent, fun, quirky and nostalgic. It perfectly complements the current Choc Nibbles range.”

In line with current confectionery trends, research has shown that 75% of global consumers want a new and exciting chocolate experience to try, and as the business notes, its new bar leverages the quirkiness of its Choc Nibbles brand that gained popularity in the UK during the 1990s, and takes it to a new level. Today, the line has a £3.5 million retail value across the UK, with the Nibbles brand continuing to grow, through the nostalgia value of the series, as well as gaining a new generation of converts to the brand.

As director Matthew Stephenson explained to Confectionery Production recently, ensuring sustainably sourced chocolate is particularly important to its own goals in terms of amplifying a belief in strong production standards. Furthermore, he explained that the business has been focused on improving its rates of using recyclable packaging to enhance its environmental performance.

Speaking on its sourcing from Luker for the Choc Nibbles bar, he said: “It was a long-held ambition of ours to work with the team at Luker. It’s hard not to admire what they stand for and what they have achieved over the years and we are very proud they have welcomed us to the family and recognised us as a business who share their values.

“We know our customers will be delighted with the news too with many of them keen for us to be supplied by Luker. It goes without saying that the quality and flavour of the product is outstanding – as a single source, fine cacao, it’s easily the best tasting chocolate on the market that can be sourced at scale. Then you take into consideration the positive social impact and sustainability elements of the business which is just remarkable on every level.”
