Here’s wishing you all a fine Christmas and a Happy New Year

With Christmas just a few days away, all that remains is to offer our best season’s greetings, and hopes that 2022 can potentially offer us all some more settled times ahead.

The past year has been exceptionally eventful on a number of levels, but I would like to offer a note of personal thanks to all those who have supported Confectionery Production and the team here, through the ongoing challenges that are impacting on us all.

Nearly two years on from its beginning, the pandemic remains a significant test to us around the world, though it has been especially encouraging to personally see how many businesses and individuals across our industries have displayed a remarkable sense of determination amid adversity.

Reflecting this, companies of all sizes, from artisans working alone, through to major confectionery groups have been keen to unveil new product development throughout the year, which has demonstrated that this is an industry that rarely stands still.

Notably, there have been some strong equipment, system and technology developments breaking through to the sector which we have reported on with interest that are further driving overall innovation, as we look forward to the New Year with a sense of hope.

Certainly, the past few months in particular here in the UK, there have been more opportunities to get out and engage with the industry in a careful manner, which have been very much welcomed.

However, the arrival of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus has presented something of a setback in terms of us all meeting, with present restrictions on travel may well have an effect on planned events for the early period of next year. So while uncertainty remains within business conditions, there’s also a strong degree of resilience within our combined sectors that is likely to ultimately see it through, however long the pandemic continues. Here’s hoping that you all have the opportunity for an enjoyable and restful Christmas break.
