The latest news

As you may know, Amy Hollamby is now on maternity leave, so, for the time being, I will be looking after Confectionery Production magazine and its associated websites and blogs. As I’m new to the confectionery industry, please get in touch and make sure you keep me informed of all your news and innovation.
Probably the biggest industry news to have come to my attention so far is that sugar quotas are to be scrapped in 2017.
The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform package “will ensure a more market-orientated environment which is a prerequisite for economic growth. In the run-up to the ending of quotas the EU authorities should take appropriate management measures to guarantee sufficient supplies of agricultural ingredients to meet the industries demands and enable Caobisco operators to be competitive on the internal and world markets,” said the industry association.
Meanwhile, the European Sugar Users association (CIUS) said: “It will allow the EU sugar sector to play an increasingly important role in the world markets.”
What are your views about the reforms and how they will affect the industry?
