Olam food ingredients (ofi) has celebrated gaining a notable 2022 Global Good Award for Sustainable Supply Chain of the Year accolade, writes Neill Barston.

The honours were open to any organisations working independently or with partners and collaborators to improve the social and environmental sustainability of its supply chain.

Consequently, ofi was judged among numerous winners at the event this month at BMA House in London, and claimed its accolade for its Cocoa Compass initiative for its supply chains serving the chocolate sector.

As Confectionery Production has previously reported, the company’s goals are aligned with the UN’s SDGs, and it is commitment to making its supply chain, and the future of cocoa, more sustainable, by helping farmers earn a living income, eliminating child labour, and protecting the environment.

This entry demonstrates the many initiatives and approaches ofi has taken on its path to achieving a more transparent, traceable, and sustainable supply chain and reaching its 2030 goals.

The judges look to award a living demonstration of how to embed the principles of sustainability in a transparent supply chain, so that the organisation achieves a significant, and preferably game-changing, improvement in the sustainability of its end product(s) and/or service(s).

One of the judges said: “This is an exceptionally strong entry with clear evidence of cross supply chain excellence, collaboration and a focus on child labour monitoring, plus the extensive statistics, like-minded partnerships and a focus on vulnerable, marginal farmers and communities.”
