23 November 2011 – Wild has tapped a natural source for blue colours: the microscopic alga Spirulina platensis. This new product means that the company can now immediately meet demand for blue food colours obtained from nature.

Wild now offers food manufacturers an even broader portfolio of natural colour

solutions, with a product developed from Spirulina. The Spirulina ingredient can be used on its own or together with other colouring foodstuffs. On its own, it provides a blue shade similar to that of blueberries; in combination with safflower the shade resembles the green of gooseberries. Whether blue or green, Wild’s new colouring foodstuffs open up more opportunities for the food industry to create appealing clean label products.

Wild’s new coloring foodstuff is water soluble and displays remarkable stability. It can be used for a whole range of applications in the food industry, like hard and soft caramels or coated tablets.
