The US-based National Confectioners Association is encouraging its members across the region to celebrate 4 July in style, with its ongoing Sweet Land of Liberty campaign marking 250 years of the country’s independence, writes Neill Barston.
Notably, the occasion has historically proved one of the most memorable moments in the country’s calendar, with chocolate, candy and snacks all playing their part – and this year’s landmark milestone has further heightened expectation surrounding festivities.
As Confectionery Production recently covered at Sweets & Snacks Expo in Las Vegas, the event helped fire up the party for the historic occasion, which was in evidence with the Sweet Land of Liberty campaign bus and stand showcasing special NCA merchandise marking the occasion.

Furthermore, the trade body has also devised its very own Sweet Land of Liberty theme tune for the occasion, which was revealed at the State of the Industry Conference in Orlando this March.
As the NCA noted, the confectionery industry has been part of the American story from the very beginning, “bringing joy to everyday moments across the country.” with the first cocoa-linked products emerging with settlers in the region just over 250 years ago.
Moreover, the organisation is encouraging its membership to post images of 4 July celebrations today, as the industry celebrates its continuing resilience, with latest figures showing the $55 billion US sector has proved its worth in weathering supply chain challenges during the past year.
Despite some background industry tests, the American confectionery market remains on track for continued expansion, which was witnessed at the recent Sweets & Snacks Expo, where both smaller independent firms and major players alike made notable releases. The NCA has also marked the occasion with merchandising special Sweet Land of Liberty caps, and one of the standout celebratory touches on display this year at Sweets & Snacks was a special bust of George Washington blowing a piece of bubblegum, representing the historic 250th anniversary.
As the NCA’s team explained to our title in our video above, the landmark celebrations were very much embraced by all this year’s event, which was reflected in the mood around the show.
With the US presently hosting the FIFA World Cup, the nation’s celebrations continue, as the host country has continued to make its way through into the knockout phases of the contest, alongside Canada and Mexico, which are also co-hosting the event – which has offered a notable boost to the candy and snacks sector.
