Anticipated to be an instant social media hit, Hershey’s latest offering, its Dubai Chocolate inspired bar, is released for a blink-and-you’ll miss it Christmas edition that’s expected to vanish faster than Santa’s sleigh, writes Neill Barston.
The extremely limited run of 10,000 bars comes in response to the continuing global confectionery phenomenon that has maintained its trajectory in spite of seemingly being in every corner of the globe during the past 18 months
As the company explained of this week’s release, it features creamy pistachio, crispy kadayif, and Hershey’s Milk Chocolate.
The release is being made Stateside, through Gopuff in New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago, with Hershey’s Chocolate World in Times Square delivering a notable experience with a countdown to its release.
According to the company, it is a matter of first come, first served, with the bar not presently set to enter production in 2026, despite the wider furore that Dubai Chocolate has caused within the industry.
As Confectionery Production observed this summer in the US, the social-media driven chocolate phenomenon was widely in evidence among independent and smaller businesses – until now.
“Not every trend gets the Hershey’s treatment,” said Megan Pantalone, senior manager, innovation at The Hershey Company. “When something takes over social media like this, we knew it deserved a one-of-a-kind release.
That’s why we kept it exclusive — only 10,000 bars total. Once they’re gone, they’re gone forever. This is for collectors, trend hunters, and anyone who wants to say they got one.”
