Crosta & Mollica biscotti range offers authentic taste of Italy

Italian food brand, Crosta & Mollica has enhanced its bakery series with four new classic biscotti offerings including crunchy Amaretti, soft amaretti, chocolate and hazelnut baci, as well as almond cantucci, writes Neill Barston.

The business, which was founded over 13 years ago, has sought to offer authentic regional tastes and flavours, with the business also offering range of sweet treats including gelato, as well as tartufi gelato truffles, lemon sorbet and mini panettone.

Made exclusively in Italy, Crosta & Mollica meaning ‘crust and crumb’ reflects the brand’s origin in the bakery sector, which it has gradually expanded over the past decade, with its latest series being distributed by Tesco stores in the UK.

It includes its Crunchy Amaretti 140g, and has been made by by bakers in the Ligurian town of Sassello and twice-baked for a sugary crunch. The signature bitter (“amaro”) taste is what gives the biscuit the name ‘Amaretti’. RRP from £2.95, 140g.

The soft amaretti are also in 140g portions, with these small cakes also made in the same region.  Their distinctive bittersweet flavour and marzipan-like centre come from the combination of ground apricot kernels and almonds. RRP from £2.95. Meanwhile, the Baci (or ‘lady’s kisses’) are made up of two hazelnut biscuits kissed together with a creamy chocolate filling. True to tradition, Crosta & Mollica Baci are made with locally grown Piemonte hazelnuts. RRP from £3.15, 140g. Finally, the Almond Cantucci, come in 170g portions and are baked by a family in Firenze, as an Italian favourite cookie.

Dean Lavender, Head of Marketing at Crosta & Mollica comments: “Despite being a nation of tea drinkers, the coffee culture is currently thriving in the UK and consumers are increasingly discerning about how they enjoy their caffè moment. Be it first thing in the morning, as an afternoon treat or even the classic Italian post-dinner espresso – authenticity is a key player that consumers are considering, and with the new Crosta & Mollica Cantucci, Baci and Amaretti biscuits, every English household will be able to experience the essence of Italy in the comfort of their home.”
