IMA’s plans in Düsseldorf will concern not only processing and packaging technologies for chocolate and confectionery products but also its capability to support companies in the research and development of new sustainable packaging styles and materials, as well as Industry 4.0 products and services, writes Neill Barston.

Countless solutions are available from our cluster of specialist companies, starting with Processing technologies (mixing, granulation, tableting and coating) to a full array of primary packaging solutions to pack gums, soft, chewy and hard candies and jellies, coated sweets and chocolate bars, tablets and pralines.

These include wallets, cartons, tins, blisters, jars and bottles; stand-up cartons, also for chocolate and nougat and any flexible pack style (from doypacks to block bottom and quad seal bags, and pillow bags). Secondary packaging or end-of-line solutions come in the form of overwrapping, stretch and shrink wrapping, top and side-loading cartoners for display boxes, wrap-around tray packers, multipurpose cartoners, side-loading, top-loading and wrap-around case packers, and palletisers. Stand highlights include a high-speed overwrapping machine IMA GIMA FTO513 Series for single and multiple products.

It handles up to 300ppm and features a number of technically advanced solutions to ensure tamper-evidence top quality package appearance. FT0513 Series are suitable to run with innovative materials to realise sustainable packs. In addition, it will show a new Stand-Up Doy pouch machine, IMAIlapak Doytronic 120, processing up to 1,5 kg capacity able to run both pre-formed Doypacks as well as from reels. A significant footprint reduction, user friendliness and modularity are key features.
