Tastetech targets menthol needs
Until now, menthol product manufacturers have faced a choice between flavour intensity or ease of processing – no natural product provided both.
When melted, menthol crystals provide flavour and freshness, but involve the handling of a strong smelling, volatile liquid which is also liable to recrystallise. The natural alternative has been spray-dried menthol but, while easier to handle, its concentration by volume at around 20% means it is unable to deliver the power or intensity of flavour that many manufacturers would like.
To combat this, TasteTech has launched the latest generation of its Stabilised Menthol Powder. Containing up to 95 per cent pure menthol, Stabilised Menthol Powder brings to the market natural menthol flavouring, which combines high-powered flavour intensity with ease of handling and use. It also doesn’t suffer the problems of recrystallisation or solidification and is cost effective when compared with spray-dried alternatives.
“Our Stabilised Menthol Powder is up to five times the strength of spray dried menthol but has none of the processing drawbacks associated with melting menthol crystals,” explains Janis Sinton, managing director of TasteTech.
Stabilised Menthol Powder is produced from natural menthol crystals using TasteTech’s microencapsulation technology, which creates a barrier between the fine menthol particles to prevent recrystallisation.
