Bonsucro Leadership Award

The Ferrero Group has announced that it is the first Bonsucro member to receive the Bonsucro Leadership Award. The Award is for demonstrating leadership, innovation and for inspiring and encouraging Bonsucro members to further increase their involvement in Bonsucro. The award was announced at Bonsucro’s Annual Conference in Manila, Philippines on 13 November 2014.

Of Ferrero’s total sugar volume in 2013, 25 per cent was sourced from refined cane sugar. Working closely with its supply chain partners, Ferrero Group aims to source 40 per cent of its sugar cane sustainably by 2016. The company plans to increase this to 70 per cent by 2018 and aims to reach its goal of 100 per cent by 2020.

Ferrero was the first company to involve its supply chain and purchase Bonsucro Certified Sugar for the physical shipment of sugar from Brazil to the EU and Canada.

In addition, the group also successfully purchased 5,000 Bonsucro credits in Australia, which represented the first step to reach the 10 per cent milestone. The revenue gained from the sale of the Bonsucro sustainability credits enables farming communities to invest in improving their agricultural practices, such as water saving techniques and pest management.

“Sustainability is a key priority for us globally. We are proud that during the period of 2013-14 we were recognised as demonstrating leadership and by being the first company to involve its supply chain in the physical shipment of Bonsucro Certified Sugar on a global scale,” stated a Ferrero spokesperson.
