Snyder’s Lance switches to humane ingredients
13 March 2012 – Snyder’s Lance is moving to cage free eggs for use in its snack products.
"We are committed to using the highest quality ingredients and keeping in touch with consumer concerns. While the vast majority of our snack products do not contain eggs, choosing cagefree eggs is the right thing for our company and our customers," says Sid Levy, director of communications and community relations for Snyder’s Lance.
"Americans are increasingly concerned about animal welfare, and Snyder’s Lance’s switch to cage free eggs is welcome news," says Kristie Middleton, outreach director, for The Humane Society for the United States (SUS), farm animal protection division.
The switch to cage free eggs is one of several actions that Snyder’s Lance has taken in regard to products and practices that reduce negative effects on the environment. The company is actively reducing the size and thickness of its cartons, initiating more aggressive recycling projects in manufacturing facilities, and optimising its delivery system for fuel conservation.
In June 2011, Snyder’s Lance finished building a solar farm in Pennsylvania, US. Covering 26 acres and comprised of 15,092 solar panels, the 3.5MW solar farm will provide 30% of the Hanover facility’s energy.
