Free-fall metal detector heightens sensitivity
The likelihood of a particle of metal being found in a packet of crisps can be eliminated using the new free-fall metal detector from Constant Instruments.
When used in a weighing and packaging line for example, the Ceia THS/G21 can be positioned immediately above a bagging machine, where it checks the falling product at high speed for any metal inclusions, and can automatically trigger the rejection of any contaminated bags.
The new multi-spectrum unit has a higher detection sensitivity than earlier instruments, enabling it to detect minute contaminant particles at very high flow rates. Non-magnetic as well as magnetic metals can be detected, including high-grade stainless steel. The THS/G21 is particularly suitable for inspecting granular foods such as cereals, crisps and other snack products.
“The instruments can be placed in close proximity to each other without causing interference, enabling two to be located side by side for example in twin bagging machines for high velocity applications,” says Constant managing director Leslie Hunt.
The THS/G21 is available as a detecting head only for multi-head OEM weighers, or Constant Instruments can supply it as an integrated system including the ejection valve.
