Some festive cheer has been leant to the UK confectionery market, as the classic Beech’s Fine Chocolates brand – which recently closed under sector financial pressures, has been dramatically revived, writes Neill Barston.
The rights to operate the 105 year-old business have now reportedly been bought by an Amazon Vendor-linked import business, Bulk Gourmet Imporium, which has operated across a number of market segments.
As Confectionery Production reported on Beech’s closure, there had been widespread concern that the heritage business, which had remained well-respected in the industry, had fallen on hard times ahead the spiralling cocoa prices of the past 18 months, as well as heightened operating costs accelerating its downfall.
However, the brand has been revived in time for Christmas, under the stewardship of its new owners, who have pledged to honour its founding traditions.
Michael Farhi, a director linked to the acquisition, confirmed to Confectionery Production that there had been a move writing on Linked in, .
He said: “For 105 years, Beech’s Fine Chocolates was a true cornerstone of British confectionery. When the gates closed in October, I saw the sadness echo across the industry, and was moved by so many of you who took the time to reflect on the brand’s history and the many challenges we all face as an industry.
“For me, the factory’s closure was never meant to be the end of the Beech’s story; just a turning point and the beginning of its next chapter.
“And I am profoundly honoured and delighted to announce that last month, Bulk Gourmet Emporium Limited acquired the Beech’s brand and its Intellectual Property. I don’t see this as simply an acquisition. I see this as accepting the duty to protect this truly iconic heritage. My team and I will ensure we stand by the quality and traditional values that Beech’s has held since 1920.”
As he added, the company is back trading Beech’s stock already this week, noting that long-term customers had already praised the return of popular brand, which Farhi described as a ‘humbling experience’.
