Chocoa’s virtual event cancelled with revived hopes of live show later in 2022

Plans for an online Chocoa cocoa and confectionery event next month have been withdrawn, as its organisers are set to revive its original live format later this year, writes Neil Barston.

With the Netherlands experiencing a post Christmas lockdown, its organisers had believed a return to its virtual format seen last year amid the pandemic would be their best option in the circumstances.

As Confectionery Production had previously reported, proposals had been put in motion for the event to take place between February 22-24 next month, but with conditions potentially easing over the coming months, its organising team believed that delivering a hybrid format, mixing a live element alongside the virtual platform of last year would now make most sense.

Jack Steijn, of Equipoise, explained a live event is now on the cards after strong feedback from the wide range of cocoa and chocolate businesses that the event engages with.

He commented: “Building on the success of Chocoa 2021, we had started to prepare the new edition. Despite the very positive feedback on the digital platform we have used for last year’s event however, we have received many requests to have an in-person event this year.

“People are understandably eager to meet live again, instead of online. We also received many requests for booths and hearth warming reactions of support for a live event. “As Chocoa 2022 will be the tenth edition of our event, we have concluded we should experience and celebrate it with a live audience, next to the online community that we will continue to serve. So we have decided to postpone the event to a later date in the year.”
