A revival of Hotel Chocolat’s popular drinking chocolate pouches is on the cards, following consumer demand for their return, according to the company, writes Neill Barston.

The business has confirmed a return for its four bestselling recipes in a format designed to meet consumer’s heightened interest in premium range offerings  the evolving needs of today’s premium hot chocolate shopper.

According to the company’s customer insights, shoppers are increasingly looking for products that offer greater flexibility, allowing them to tailor serving size, flavour intensity and preparation method to different occasions at home.

As the firm noted, the pouches had been ‘retired’ last September, yet have reportedly been among their most requested items, with customers valuing the fact they were resealable, allowing adjustments to drink strength.

They are available in classic 70%, Milky 50%, Salted Caramel and Vanilla White, the relaunched range will be available in all UK Hotel Chocolat stores and online from 17 August 2026, priced at £9.95 for a 280g pouch with approximately nine serves. Each recipe is made with more cacao, delivering greater depth, richness and a smoother drinking chocolate experience. The resealable pouch format helps keep every chocolate flake fresh between cups, supporting repeat enjoyment at home.

The pouches can be prepared in the company’s newly enhanced  Velvetiser, on the hob or with a steam wand, giving shoppers multiple ways to enjoy premium drinking chocolate at home.

Commenting on the relaunch, Ollie Pearce, Global Business Unit Lead – Velvetiser and Drinking Chocolate at Hotel Chocolat said: “Bringing the pouches back was driven by what our customers told us they wanted. We’ve learned that shoppers aren’t all looking for the same drinking chocolate experience. Some are looking for a convenient, ready-portioned serve, while others want the flexibility to create their perfect cup at home, whether that’s in the Velvetiser, on the hob or with a steam wand.

“The return of the pouches reflects how the category is evolving. Consumers are looking for products that fit naturally into everyday routines while still delivering a premium experience. Our opportunity is to continue innovating across the category, from formats to recipes, to meet changing shopper habits and new occasions.”
