An extension to a classic confectionery series is in the offing, as Nestlé’s Polo series has forged two additions to its sugar-free series, amid wider growth within sugar-reduced and better-for-you, categories, writes Neill Barston.

The latest extensions will be produced at its key British production site in York, which is also home to the company’s flagship KitKat range, which has remained a pivotal brand for the group.

Its latest offerings come in the form of new Polo sugar-free extra strong mint, and Polo sugar-free Berry mint flavours, having been developed in response to wider market developments that have seen manufacturers increasingly explore more reduced sugar, and sugar-free options.

As the company noted, it has produced Polo at its core Yorkshire site for the past seven decades, with the new line also being vegan friendly, and are targeting markets beyond traditional breath freshening.

The two new range additions are available now across the country, and are priced in line with its core Polo singles range.  As the company noted,  The Oral Health Foundation recognises that Polo Sugar-Free Mints are a useful aid in oral health, underlining the company’s engagement with delivering alternative confectionery options within the market.

As previously reported by Confectionery Production, the business has just released its annual results for 2025. These revealed that while sales revenues and overall profits were down, its confectionery division delivered a strong performance for the group of single-digit growth for the year.

Sophie Browning, Brand Manager for Polo & Rowntree’s at Nestlé UK and Ireland, welcomed the emergence as a key development for the brand.

She said: “At POLO, we love that fresh breath feeling and these new sugar free flavours offer even more ways to enjoy that signature POLO freshness. We’re proud to make them right here in York, continuing our heritage while moving our sugar-free offerings forward.”
