Irish confectionery firm Lir has set its sights on turning heads this Christmas, as it lifts the lid on a slice of festive innovation in the form of the Baileys Chocolate Caramel Whirl, writes Neill Barston.

The latest line hit shelves recently in two format, a single (rrp £1) in Sainsbury’s and Asda, and a triple pack (RRP £2.75) in Tesco, Waitrose, and Morrisons, as it hopes to add a little liquid magic into the category.

As Lir Chocolates noted, the range is strategically positioned to tap into both impulse and gifting occasions during the all-important holiday season.

It features a unique whirl-shaped milk chocolate shell filled with a soft marshmallow centre and a layer of smooth caramel, all infused with the unmistakable flavour of Baileys Original Irish Cream.

The series has been devised to  suit a range of seasonal moments, from thoughtful gifting to indulgent self-treating, and carries a nostalgic twist that aligns with what today’s festive shoppers are looking for.

Baileys Chocolate was the fastest growing premium chocolate brand at Christmas 2024, highlighting the brand’s momentum and the consumer demand for high-quality, indulgent treats.

Ethan Duffey, brand manager for Baileys Chocolate noted: “The Chocolate Caramel Whirl is expected to be one of the brand’s most successful seasonal NPDs yet, with strong retail backing driven by Baileys’ recognised credentials in festive treating. The format meets the needs of today’s value-conscious but experience-seeking shopper.”

Impulse formats like the single Baileys Chocolate Caramel Whirl are ideally suited to high-footfall areas and till-side placements. With 61% of UK consumers seeking “permissible indulgences” and premium novelty treats continuing to outperform the wider category at Christmas, this product hits a sweet spot between convenience, quality and seasonal appeal.
