Capol, the German-headquartered global ingredients group with a strong specialism in confectionery, has moved to acquire flavouring firm Curt Georgi, as it marks its 50th anniversary this year, writes Neill Barston.

The terms of the deal have not been released, but form part of a wider programme of expansion for the group, which is linked to parent business business, Freudenberg Chemical Specialities based in Munich.

As Capol noted, the decision to purchase the fellow German business comes as it seeks to expand its areas of expertise as it continues to grow its footprint around the world.

This includes the company having gained a significant interest in the US, where its regional division has achieved success with its core lines including the recently created Vivapigments natural colouring series for confectionery.

For its part, Curt Georgi has a total of 150 years heritage to its name, having developed into a major supplier of specialised flavorings.

With its broad product range of natural and nature-identical flavors, the company enjoys the trust of leading confectionery, baked goods, dairy, and ice cream companies worldwide. High-quality products and first-class technical advice make Curt Georgi a trusted partner with a high level of customer-specific solution expertise.

The shared customer base and the high degree of complementarity between the first-class product ranges of CAPOL and Curt Georgi form the strategic basis for continued international growth of both companies within the framework of the integration. Shared values such as partnership, quality, and trust form the foundation of the acquisition and represent the sustainable development of Curt Georgi with a long-term focus.

Peter Hantl, CEO of Capol welcomed the acquisition, believing it would strengthen each of the companies’ operations.

He said: “Both companies, with their strong brands, stand for deep technical expertise in their respective business areas,” explains  “With the integration of Curt Georgi, we will significantly expand and strategically develop our existing local flavor business.”

Curt Georgi also significantly complements CAPOL’s existing product and service portfolio in the area of surface treatments and natural colors, thus opening up new perspectives.

“The integration creates a complementary offering that will enable us to further exploit our respective market potential in the future,” explains Filip Krulis, CEO of Freudenberg Chemical Specialities GmbH. “The acquisition underscores our commitment to systematically expanding our leading market position through focused growth in highly specialized segments.” Customers of both companies will benefit not only from an integrated solution offering, but also from a strengthened global presence through the powerful, internationally oriented sales network.

“As a traditional family business with over 175 years of history, it is our goal to ensure the highest level of stability and continuity for all our new employees and customers,” adds Dr. Sebastian Weiß, CFO of Freudenberg Chemical Specialities GmbH. “We are convinced that Curt Georgi will be a valuable addition to the entire FCS Group and warmly welcome our new colleagues.”
