A significant expansion to Barry Callebaut’s Canadian production capabilities has been confirmed, as it opens its brand new $104 million site in the country, located at Brantford, Ontario, reports Neill Barston.

It stands as the third facility in the nation, which has proved particularly notable for its manufacturing operations in the North American region, with its latest multi-million investment underlining its commitment to furthering its presence in the region.

Moreover, as the company explained, Ontario has proved an area that has shown major manufacturing expansion, with the expanded capacity enabling greater local recruitment that secures its chocolate production for its markets within the territory.

As the company confirmed, the facility is equipped with advanced production lines focused on liquid moulding, liquid chocolate, and industrial molding across a wide range of applications, supporting customers with greater flexibility and capacity.

In fact, the development is the company’s first new factory in North America since 2008, and its largest capital investment in the region to date, though precise investment figures have not been released.

The site adds to existing facilities in Chatham, Ontario, and St. Hyacinthe, Quebec. The new chocolate factory in Brantford marks a significant milestone in Barry Callebaut’s growth journey across North America.

Its advanced facilities also helps shorten supply chain in the region, with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony welcomed customers, guests, and local partners to the Brantford facility.

As the company added, the event highlighted the company’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and growth, and provided an opportunity for attendees to tour the state-of-the-art plant and see firsthand the capabilities that will support customers across Canada and beyond.

Natasha Chen, President, North America at Barry Callebaut, welcomed the new investment.  She said: “Brantford is more than a new facility, it’s a hub for innovation, service and excellence in everything we create. This plant will allow us to work even more closely with our customers, delivering the chocolate solutions they need while strengthening our presence in Canada and the entire region. We’re excited to grow alongside this community and invest in the talent and innovation that make our business thrive.”

Zeljko Andrasic, Plant Manager, Brantford at Barry Callebaut, also enthused about the new site, which he believed would be instrumental in its operations for the region.

He added: “We’re proud to open our doors here in Brantford and become part of this community. This facility is more than just a factory; it’s a place where local talent, innovation, and collaboration come together to create the exceptional chocolate our customers love. Beyond building a facility, we’re building a culture, one that values safety, quality, and, above all, the people who make it all possible. We’re excited to grow with Brantford, support local jobs, and contribute to the region’s thriving food manufacturing landscape.”
