Roshen to invest in Lithuanian caramel factory

30 July 2010 – The Roshen Confectionary Corporation, one of the largest confectionary producers in Ukraine, plans to invest €8 million in its Klaipeda confectionery factory in Lithuania.

These assets will be directed at purchase and installation of new improved equipment for caramel production and at the improvement of the factory's power supply system.

It is assumed that after the modernisation, the output capacity of the Klaipeda confectionery factory will rise to 1,290 tonnes of products per month.

The corporation expects that confectionary products produced by the Lithuanian factory will go on sale on the European markets in March 2011.

The company, which produces around 25% of all Ukrainian confectionery, has also just announced a 35% increase in sales for the first half of the year, compared to the same period in 2009.

The manufacturer of a range of sweets, chocolate, sugar candies, cookies, waffles, fruit jellies and cakes said that sales totalled $ 425m during the first six months of 2010. Roshen said that output in the period reached 184,000 tonnes, an increase of 12% on the same period in 2009.
