Progress in sustainable palm oil efforts

IOI Loders Croklaan, a leading supplier of sustainable palm oil, has reached a major milestone in the importation of RSPO certified palm oil. Between August 2011 and July 2013, the company has imported and marketed more than 500,000 ton of sustainable palm oil products in the European Union.

Over this period, IOI Loders Croklaan has seen the turnover of RSPO-certified products grow progressively. Hidde van Kersen, IOI Loders Croklaan sustainability director said: “For 2013 our goal is to increase the volume of certified sustainable palm oil to 30% of our European sales. We are currently a leading importer of sustainable palm oil into Europe and see the 500,000 ton mark as proof that our efforts to make sustainable palm oil the market standard are yielding results. ”.

In terms of certification systems, van Kersen sees a rapid movement towards palm oil offered as mass balance and segregated. “This is good news as both systems require physical shipments of sustainable palm oil into Europe, helping to make our market fully sustainable”

IOI Loders Croklaan’s sustainable oil is primarily produced by its parent company, IOI Group in Malaysia. The Group expects to reach full RSPO certification of its plantations by the end of the year.
