Feeding popcorn

21st June – A West Midlands popcorn manufacturer requiring an elevating and feeding system to connect its roasting and flavouring process points to their packaging unit has chosen Gough Engineering as its materials handling equipment manufacturer.

The system needed to be clean, quick, efficient and most of all, cost effective. Together with engineers from Cornpoppers, Gough’s senior application engineers supplied a Swinglink bucket elevator and electro magnetic vibratory feeder with a support frame for the elevating and feeding process.

The Swinglink is designed in a ‘Z’ shape with one inlet and one outlet. This is the simplest means of elevating a product from one process to another. The bucket elevator has a throughput of 720kg/hr of sweet popcorn and 324kg/hr of salty popcorn and runs at a speed of 15m/min.

The electro magnetic feeder feeds popcorn at rates up to 720kg/hr. The Gough E-Mag feeder, constructed from stainless steel grade 304 is connected to a weighing machine for controlled feeding, and integral hoppers can be supplied to feed directly from a Swinglink bucket elevator.

Together with a control panel supplied to manage the units, the process can produce up to 50 bags of salty or sweet popcorn per minute.
