Cadbury becomes official 2012 Olympic sponsor

Cadbury has become an official sponsor of the London 2012 Olympic Games, and will supply all confectionery and packaged ice cream at the Olympic Park during the Games. This has angered workers at one of its UK plants, which is due to shut by 2010 with the loss of about 500 jobs.

The deal gives Cadbury rights to use the London 2012 logo on products as well as marketing rights to Team GB and Paralympics GB.
There are now seven tier one’ sponsors; Adidas, BP, British Airways, BT, EDF Energy, Lloyds TSB and Nortel, who donate around Ł40 million (Ű50m). Cadbury, as a tier-two sponsor, donates around Ł20m (Ű25m).

The company was an official supplier of the Sydney Games in 2000, as well as the Commonwealth Games in Manchester (2002) and Melbourne (2006).
Campaigners trying to save the UK plant due to close said they were furious the firm was planning to spend more than £20m in sponsorship of the games in London.
