Healthy hopes

I spent a considerable amount of time at Health Ingredients Europe in Madrid this week talking about subjects only relevant to a minor section of the confectionery market.

It is certainly relevant but healthy confectionery is always likely to be a niche market in comparison to indulgence. It was still interesting to see the options that are available for natural alternatives to various ingredients, vitamin inclusions, more acceptable tasting Omega 3, superfruits, the general sweeteners as well as the vast hopes for Stevia as accreditation supposedly draws nearer.

Part of the awards, though, were somewhat disturbed by the fact that all three candidates for the weight management section were rejection on the grounds that they didn’t meet the criteria.
