German cocoa grind up

Germany’s fourth quarter 2009 cocoa grind has risen 9.4% compared to the same time last year, reaching 95,834 tonnes, according to the association of German Confectionary Producers, BDSI.

A rise had been expected following the expansion of a Hamburg cocoa processing plant.

Looking at the European total, cocoa bean grindings in the fourth quarter reached 351,316 metric tonnes, up 0.6% compared to the previous year and 1.9% higher than the third quarter, says the European Cocoa Association.
