Food Design director retires

After 14 years at the helm, Colin Hunter has retired as managing director of Food Design, manufacturer of specialist sugar confectionery ingredients to the international food industry

Hunter built the company from a germ of an idea on the proverbial “back of fag packet”, into an organisation with a turnover of between £3-4 million. This was achieved from over 40 years of experience within the food industry and created a company that now supplies fudge and toffee inclusions to markets throughout the UK, Europe, Canada, Russia, the Middle East and Australasia.

Hunter’s experience was gained from his training as a baker at Birmingham College of Technology, running his own bakery business and from government appointments. In the late 1970’s he was given a brief by the Ghanaian government to commission a series of new bakeries and carry out a full staff training programme. He was also appointed by a London-based merchant bank to deliver infrastructure for the development of baking basic bread in North & South Sudan, Nigeria and Kenya.

He says, “My working life has been governed by the phrase never say never’ and this will remain my mantra as I move on to the next phase of my life-wherever it may take me”.
