Bakery wins Supreme Champion at Great Taste Awards

Recently, the Great Taste Awards final was held at Fortnum & Mason in London.
The gluten-free More? Muddees chocolate brownie from Cumbria’s More? The Artisan Bakery was named Supreme Champion 2009. Champion baker Patrick Moore accepted the award. Radio host Chris Evans, restaurateur Mark Hix and TV chef Antony Worrall Thompson were among the judges.

The Great Taste Awards from the Guild of Fine Food have become an acknowledged benchmark for UK speciality food and drink. An 80 page guide to the winning foods will be widely distributed through the independent retail trade and at a host of regional and national food festivals during 2009 and 2010.
The judging standards are among the most rigorous in the UK. Every entry was blind tasted by two teams of experts working separately but simultaneously. Both teams commented on each entry, both teams recommended foods to go forward to the second stage. All entries awarded the coveted 3 star gold (there were just 83 out of a total 4873 entries this year) were put forward for major awards, including the Supreme Champion.
Dorset-based Fudges Bakery won Specialist Producer of the Year award for their consistency over the years.
Three chocolate companies achieved three gold awards ” Bill McCarrick from Sir Hans Sloane for his dark chocolate and hazelnut praline, Claire Burnett from Chococo for its Blackcurrant with 70% dark chocolate and Paul a Young for his sea salted caramel.
