Thorntons reorganises

UK confectionery retailer Thorntons has created two new business units to create “a structure of greater accountability and transparency”.

The company has created a sales & operations business unit and a retail business unit. Barry Bloomer, the managing director of sales and operations will run commercial sales in addition to his existing role in charge of purchasing, manufacturing and distribution.

The retail business unit will continue to be headed by director of retail, Lysanne McCallion, adding responsibility for Thorntons Direct to that for store operations, trading, property and franchise.

The company has also appointted a new finance director. Mark Robson, currently finance director at UK retailer Somerfield is to succeed outgoing John Wall, who announced his intention to step down from the compan’s board earlier in the year.
