PFF invests £1.5m in injection moulding technology

The PFF Packaging Group has invested £1.5 million in new injection moulding (IM) technology – a move it says will significantly strengthen its position in the sector and extend its food packaging offering.

Two new BMB 500 tonne eKW hybrid high volume machines – each capable of producing up to 200,000 units per week – have been installed at the group’s manufacturing site in Tyne & Wear, UK, and are being used to produce bespoke tubs and lids for the dairy industry.

The company says the investment now enables it to offer customers a complete solution in terms of packaging options.

“We found that many of our customers had to import injection moulded products because they couldn’t find a UK supplier capable of delivering bespoke solutions,” explains PFF managing director Andy Bairstow.

“Thin-wall injection moulding technology has developed enormously in recent years so it is much faster and more efficient than it used to be. By developing our own injection moulding offering alongside our thermoforming solutions, our customers can now benefit from dealing with one single supplier for all their packaging requirements.”

PFF’s investment in additional IM equipment comes after the company last year opened its £1m Innovation Centre on the same site – a creative hub for packaging innovation and sustainability which aims to deliver bespoke concepts and design-to-prototype solutions within 24 hours.
