Having recently returned from Austria for the biennial Snackex exhibition and conference, I’m flying there again today – this time to drive across the border to northern Italy to visit wafer company Loacker.
Based in South Tyrol, northern Italy, Loacker was founded in 1925 as a small regional confectioner and has developed into a global player, exporting its products to over 100 countries. Loacker produced a staggering 877 million products in 2016 so I’m looking forward to finding out more about how they’re made and what trends they’re seeing in the industry. An interesting fact about the company is that it uses waste heat from its wafer ovens to heat rooms, thanks to heat recovery.
Look out for live updates from the tour round the company’s production facility on our Twitter page @confectionprod. A full review will be featured in our September issue.
Confectionery Production is also working on the joint July/August issue at the moment. Readers can look forward to features on the innovations in forming and extrusion equipment, the search for alternatives in confectionery coatings, as well as a look at why all multi-head weighers are not the same.
Last but not least, our sister website Sweets & Savoury Snacks World has launched its very own Instagram page so please get involved by following us @sweetsnsavoury.
Until next time…
