Barry Callebaut acquires Belgian chocolate factory

Cocoa giant Barry Callebaut has completed its acquisition of a Belgian chocolate factory from Mondelēz International.

The factory in Halle, Belgium, which is being integrated into Barry Callebaut’s global manufacturing network, will expand the company’s production capacity for quality Belgian chocolate and fillings. The deal closed following the completion of works council consultations and closing conditions.

As a result of the acquisition, Barry Callebaut believes it will be better equipped to capture business opportunities in the fast growing segment of specialty chocolate and fillings ‘Made in Belgium’.

The transaction also includes a long-term agreement for the supply of an additional 30,000 tonnes of liquid chocolate per year to Mondelēz International, which will start this year.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
