The Confectionery Production team were at Food Matters Live in London yesterday to discover the latest trends in the industry and see all the new product launches on show.

Taking place at Excel, everything from fruit jerky to protein flapjacks and sweet chia seed cashew nuts to taro chips were on show for everyone to sample. With a sweet tooth, my favourite has to be the chia seed cashew nuts from Beanbag Snacks. The event also included a standalone conference, addressing issues including the future of clean label, sustainability, as well as sugar and society. In addition, there were seminars focusing on what lessons have been learned on reformulation and how far can it go, as well as a look at how to appeal to millennials through packaging design.

No sooner than I get back to my desk, I’ll be off travelling again for Health Ingredients Europe in Frankfurt. Claiming to be the world’s leading health and natural food ingredients event, I’ll be making sure I pack my comfortable shoes. You can view our preview for the event in our November issue, and a review will appear in our December/January issue.

Speaking of which, the December/January issue is coming along nicely. In it, we have insights on the latest trends in functional ingredients for confectionery, as well as sugar reduction and the use of high intensity sweeteners in confectionery and bakery products. We also have an exclusive interview with chocolate manufacturer Hamiltons Chocolates. With all the shows we’ve been attending recently, readers can also look forward to roundups from events including Gulfood Manufacturing.
