Cocoa and chocolate network for women launches

International organisation Solidaridad has launched the Women in Cocoa & Chocolate (WINCC) network, which aims to connect and engage women throughout the supply chain.

Introduced at the third World Cocoa Conference in the Dominican Republic this week, Solidaridad says it hopes women can “increase their sphere of influence to take the lead in changing the industry”.

While women play a big role in the production of cocoa and consumption of chocolate, they have little influence in the sector, according to Solidaridad.

Beatrice Moulianitaki, cocoa programme manager for Solidaridad and initiator of WINCC, explains, “We should stop only talking about women in the cocoa fields, and start talking about what we as women can do throughout the supply chain. Collectively we can encourage and empower women leadership.”

Solidaridad adds that through a digital platform online, women can connect, sign up for annual events and participate in professional working groups.
