Colian snaps up Elizabeth Shaw chocolate brand

British chocolate brand Elizabeth Shaw has been acquired by Polish confectionery business Colian Holding for £2.3 million ($3.3m).

As part of the deal, Colian Holding has also taken control of the Famous Names subsidiary from Imagine Capital AS fund.

Elizabeth Shaw says the support of Colian signifies a “new chapter” in the company’s future and a commitment to secure long-term growth.

Colian Holding president Jan Kolański says, “Acquisition of the well known British brands is a substantial reinforcement of the Colian group potential towards the execution of the company’s strategy aimed at the expansion into foreign markets.”

He adds that the saturated market in Poland is forcing manufacturers to “be more active” in their search for external selling markets.

Split into two companies: Colian and Colian Logistic, Colian Holding operates manufacturing facilities across Poland and exports its products to over 60 countries.

Colian operates within three business divisions: confectionery, culinary products (seasoning products, nuts and dried fruit) and beverages, while Colian Logistic manages the logistics operations of the whole group.

“Acquisition of the valued chocolate makers will help us to complement our offer on the British market, on which, so far, we offered mainly our products from the segment of waffles and cookies,” explains Kolański.
