Health and happiness

Apparently chocolate can help to reduce the size of your waistline. It’s official – a scientific study by Wolfson Medical Centre in Israel has shown that this is indeed the case. However, it does need to be enjoyed at the right time of day and in moderation, but that’s fine by me. I’m not adverse to having chocolate for breakfast occasionally, and it seems this is totally acceptable. Apparently, study participants who incorporated chocolate into their breakfast lost weight, as their cravings for sweet foods were reduced throughout the rest of the day.

In addition, starting the day with chocolate can improve your mood and energy levels and even reduce wrinkles.  This is because chocolate contains phenylethylamine, which encourages the release of ‘happy’ endorphins in the brain, meaning those who eat chocolate in the morning start the day feeling good.  Even better, if you are an early riser and need a boost, the theobromine in chocolate increases your energy levels.  And the natural fats and antioxidants in cocoa butter keep your skin hydrated and youthful.

As you might expect, high quality chocolate has the greater benefits than chocolate that is mass produced and highly processed. This is because it typically contains cheaper, less nutritious ingredients, such as vegetable fat and refined sugar, which are used to supplement cocoa butter and cane sugar.

So, why not start the day with some chocolate and experience the benefits for yourself?
