Keeping it topical

As a monthly printed publication, CP can never hope to be at the forefront when it comes to breaking news. Of course, we have the CP website for up to date news coverage, but in the magazine we aim to take a more in depth look at what’s happening in the industry worldwide.

With that in mind, in the March issue, you will find a news focus article on Ukraine. In a country embroiled in an ugly armed conflict, the issue of confectionery may appear at first to be superfluous. In Ukraine, though, that is anything but the case. Not only is confectionery a key industry for the country, it is also a highly politicised one. The conflict with Russia led to a trade embargo that is affecting the industry, but above all, Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko is widely known as the ‘chocolate king’ as the founder of the country’s biggest confectionery company, Roshen. Mark Rowe takes an exclusive in-depth look at how the political situation is affecting the confectionery sector.

Having been out and about at ProSweets and ISM last month, speaking to industry representatives is obviously a massive driver when it comes to deciding on the content and direction of the magazine. There is so much knowledge, passion and innovation out there to tap in to. Read all about the latest industry innovations in our review of the shows. We’ll be following up on some of these stories in future issues, but in the meantime, if there’s anything in particular that you’d like to hear more about, please let me know.

The next big industry event is of course Anuga FoodTec, which takes from 24-27 March 2015 at Koelnmesse in Germany. If you’re going to be there, let me know. We’d love to report on what you’re doing in a future issue of the magazine.
