Cadbury considers bid for Leaf

Cadbury is reportedly planning a surprise EU expansion with a bid for Leaf International’s Scandinavia and Benelux operations, according to press reports.

Netherland-based Leaf, the owner of Chewits sweets, relaunched the Chewits brand in the UK recently. It is one of Europe’s Leaf has been put up for sale by the private-equity firms CVC Capital and Nordic Capital, which bought the firm in 2004 from the Dutch conglomerate CSM.

Other bidders are understood to include Italian confectionery giant Perfetti Van Melle, which owns Fruittella, Mentos and Chupa Chups.
