The fight against child labour

The ILO and the Association of Chocolate, Biscuit and Confectionery Industries of Europe (CAOBISCO) met on 11 June in Amsterdam to sign a Public-Private Partnership Agreement that extends the project on the Elimination of Worst Forms of Child Labour in Seasonal Hazelnut Harvesting in Turkey.

Ms Özge Berber Agtaş, officer in charge of the ILO Office for Turkey in Ankara, and Ms Sabine Nafziger, secretary general of CAOBISCO, signed the agreement during the World Cocoa Conference. A one-year extension of the project has been issued and will be jointly implemented by the ILO and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of Turkey in the province of Ordu.

The project provides support for children and families and raises awareness complying with the Time-Bound Policy and Programme Framework (2005-2015). The continuation of the project will further develop the existing model and provide a monitoring mechanism for child labour in seasonal agriculture.
