UK confectioner leaves Skegness

Confectionery business Glisten has confirmed that it is to transfer manufacturing from its Skegness, UK, site, with the majority going to its Leicester, UK, plant and the remainder to its plant in the Czech Republic.

The decision, which follows full consultation with all employees, will see the Skegness site close at the end of March 2014. All 87 employees at the plant have been offered roles at other sites within the group in the UK.

Managing Director, Mark Adcock, says: “We had to measure the cost and feasibility of increasing our manufacturing capacity in Skegness, against the fact that we have spare capacity at our other production facilities. This transfer will enable us to continue to meet the demands of the major retail customers who are fundamental to our business and continued growth.”

Glisten is an independent confectionery manufacturer and part of the Raisio Group. Established for more than 100 years, it produces an extensive range of private label and own-brand boiled sweets, fruit gums, jellies, toffees, chocolates and popcorn for UK retailers.
